Pulau Matematika
A game-based iOS learning app that helps Indonesian elementary students in grades 1-3 build foundational math skills through playful, concrete interactions.

Problem
Many elementary students in Indonesia struggle to understand mathematics. For children aged 7-9, Piaget’s theory of cognitive development suggests that abstract concepts can be difficult to grasp. The project therefore needed to create a fun, engaging educational environment for early learners.
Approach
We created Pulau Matematika, a game-based iOS learning experience for students in grades 1-3. The app presents learning activities in a playful island world with friendly characters, colourful visual assets, and interactive tasks designed to make early math concepts feel more concrete and approachable.
As the iOS Developer, I implemented the app in Swift using UIKit and Storyboards. I built the interactive gameplay, integrated audio through AVFoundation, and used gesture and device-motion interactions to make activities more engaging.
Experience design
The flow combines a welcoming onboarding sequence with a colourful island setting and clear visual prompts, helping young learners focus on one playful task at a time.

Interaction details
Drag interactions let children move objects directly within the game world.

Device-motion interactions add another tactile, game-like way to progress through activities.

Outcome
Pulau Matematika was delivered as a functional iOS educational game prototype that combines foundational mathematics learning with playful interaction, animation, sound, and a child-friendly visual experience.
